Personal and Community Development program

This project has two interrelated components: scholarship and community libraries.

Scholarship: to help families with the educational expenses of their children. In spite of the construction of schools in our communities, some families do not have the economic resources to support their children of school age. This program seek to help families in need to build a better future for their children by supporting them through elementary, middle and high school. Currently 60 children from 5 communities are benefited from this scholarship.

Community Libraries: many of our communities do not have a place where our children can look for additional information to do their homework or adults can self-educate themselves. Currently we have four libraries which serve more than 5,000 people (children and adults). These places not only help to increase the children's interest in reading, but also give a safe place for many teens to socialize with their peers in a healthy environment.

Volunteer House :The dream of having a volunteer’s house at our center in Orocuina, Honduras was finally fulfilled in July, 2005. Kristen Melby from Minnesota will be its first occupant for at least the next year. There is space for additional short or long term volunteers to work with the wonderful women who make up our program there. If you would like to contribute to our work here as a volunteer, please send a letter of interest to our office in Virginia.
